(Answer) (Category) Linux on PowerPC FAQ-O-Matic : (Category) Trash : (Category) Revised FOM :
Ports
There are two "ports:" (Xref) PowerPC Linux, which is based on the actual Linux kernel, and is covered under the GPL, and (Xref) MkLinux, which is based on the Mach 3.0 kernel, originally written at Carnegie-Mellon University. MkLinux is different as well because the kernel is not under the GPL (see http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html for information about the GPL), rather, it is mostly under a BSD style license (see http://www.openbsd.org/policy.html for a complete discussion). For the most part, any binary that can run under Linux/PPC can run under MkLinux.
