Partitioning HD on a PowerMac 6100 for MKlinux
I have a PowerMac 6100/66 and Im attempting to install MKlinux on it. I start up on a System cd, then I run Hard Drive Setup and it says something like "cannot initialize, something in use" Why can't I initialize?
First of all, verify you really booted off the system CD. Then, go to the Utilities folder of your system CD and run Drive Setup from the CD or copy the Drive Setup program to a floppy and run from there.
Your ultimate solution for partitioning the hard drive on the older PowerMac computers is with Disk Tools PPC, available as a free download from Apple Software Updates http://asu.info.apple.com/swupdates.nsf/artnum/n10324
This will let you partition, reformat, and even run Disk First Aid from a floppy, much easier than booting from System CD.
