(Answer) (Category) Linux on PowerPC FAQ-O-Matic : (Category) Booting Trouble :
Powerbook G3 Keyboard won't accept input
This problem occurs for two unrelated reasons. The simple one is that the mute button is on. For some reason, this disabled keyboard and mouse input. Restart with the mute off.
Second, you may have found a bug in one of the older kernels or perhaps in the combination of the new BootX and certain kernels. Download the newest kernel and BootX.
The kernels (vmlinux files) are avalible from ftp://linuxppc.cs.nmt.edu/pub/linuxppc/kernel-images/ and should replace your current kernel in the System folder on the MacOS drive.
The most recent version of BootX (1.0.1 as I write this on 990308) is available from http://calvaweb.calvacom.fr/bh40/ and should replace your current BootX extension and application.
(Make backups of your current BootX and Kernel before replacing them, of course.)
