Mach 3.0 crashing install on Mac G3
In trying to install mklinux on an external hard drive with a /linux partician and a /swap partician I get a Panic 0x300 Data Acess error. version string: Mach 3.0 version (pmk 1.1):gilbert losfmk>; wed June 10 17:45:07 PDT 1998; Mach_Kernel/Production (venus.apple.com).
This happens the durring the first attempt to write to the drive.
If anyone has experienced and overcome this problem please let me know.
This is caused by a bug in the driver for the pre-installed UW SCSI card that came in some G3 machines. Currently, there are two choices: use LinuxPPC (there's a hack in the LinuxPPC BootX code that works around this) or yank the card.
