(Answer) (Category) Linux on PowerPC FAQ-O-Matic : (Category) Applications :
Are all Linux applications universal?
I am a Macintosh user. Recently, as I am trying to develop a website, I find Linuxppc to be more and more appealing for my objective. Thanks for the Faq-O-Matic. It helped answer most of my questions. However, I would like to know that once I have booted Linuxppc 4.0, will I be able to use any Linux flavor applications listed by GNU, Redhat or Slackware without complications?

Short answer is, you can't run Linux/i386 binaries on a PowerPC. Anything that comes in source form (such as everything GNU, and Redhat SRPMS, and probably most things Slackware) will recompile with minimal effort for PowerPC.
Good luck,
