What MPEG audio players are available for Linux?
In general, there are a wide variety of players available for Linux to play various sound formats (e.g. MPEG, AIFF, WAV, MOD, etc).

MPEG:
- XMMS #really fancy one, much like WinAmp, plays all kinds of sounds. Next version will support MPEG movies. Included with all RedHat-6.0 based distros.
- Mpg123 #The classic one, included with every Linux distro since LinuxPPC R4.
- gqmpeg #Fast frontend (supports WinAMP skins) to Mpg123
- kmpg #A Mpg123 player, that is designed for the K Desktop Enviroment and looks and feels like a KDE App. Get it at www.kmp3.org

AIFF,WAV, AU:

- Often you can just cat these files directly to /dev/dsp.
- XMMS
- KMediaTool

MIDI

- TiMidity
All of these programs work good with the PowerPC.

If you are having problems playing sounds in GNOME, you most likely need to install the patched version of GNOME with big endian sound patches. Get them at ftp://ftp.linuxppc.org/contrib/
