![]() ![]() ![]() PPP is broken after upgrading to latest 2.1.x kernel |
There have been a number of changes happening with PPP in the latest 2.1.x
kernels; as a result, old versions of pppd (which lives in /usr/sbin) don't
work. Typical problems include "ioctl(SIOCADDRT): Network is down" or similar
messages showing up in /var/log/messages (if you've put 'kdebug 1' in your pppd
options). The solution is to download and compile the *very* latest pppd (as of this writing, that's version 2.3.1, which works with kernel 2.1.62). I found my copy at ftp.sunet.se, but a quick Web search for "ppp-2.3.1" will find you a copy pretty easily. It downloads and compiles out of the box. The pppd binary that is provided in a fair number of Linux-pmac sites doesn't work, and neither does the pppd that comes with MkLinux. geweke@uclink.berkeley.edu | |
