fortran compilers on ppc chip
I am benchmarking floating point computations on pentium and ppc chips using both g77 and absoft compilers. In general, I observe that the ppc chip is a factor of two slower. Have others observed similar performance for scientific computing applications? Is this possibly a result of compiler optimization being more advanced for linux on the pc than linux on the mac?
