(Answer) (Category) Linux on PowerPC FAQ-O-Matic : (Category) Booting Trouble :
mesh: SCSI bus reset detected: waiting for end
I always experienced this problem everytime I connect my internal CD drive to my performa 5400 machine.
Machine: Performa 5400 Memory : 80Mb OS : Mac OS9 CD-Rom : (CD ROM MATSHITA CR-ROMCR-8012 1.0g)
Solution: First .. I copy all the files from my LinuxPPC 99 CD to my hard disk. Follow the instruction from the LinuxPPC Guide.pdf for copying. After you copy all the files .. make sure that all the contents in the subdirectory section of the software directory except for the RedHat directory are copied in the RPMS directory of RedHat... /software/redhat/rpms ...make sure that there is no other directory in the RPMS else you will experienced this error msg "Warning: unable to open an initial console. Kernel panic: no init found." after you installed LinuxPPC. After you have finished copying .. disconnect the CDROM and boot from ramdisk.
If you have experienced frequent crashes in the installation(like i did) .. install from redhat .. and increased the ramdisk_size from 8192 to 70000 ... to have smooth installation. I dont why is this happening but just experiment with it. If you have problem starting X windows .. reinstall it from LinuxPPC Terminal window .. rpms -ivh --force <files.ppc.rpm>.. install all the X windows files ..
I know that this is kinda crude installation but i hope that this will help you. The problem here is that I cant still reconnect my cdrom without that infinite mesh: SCSI bus reset detected error message... but what a heck .. i can start linux anyway.. i just cant mount the cd though.
If you have any idea on how to make my cdrom run in linux .. pls email me at dark_menace@gurlmail.com... any help or ideas will be gladly appreciated. More power on LinuxPPC ... More power on the open source revolution... and most of all.. more power on the macintosh.

Hey, i used to have the same problem. here's what i did: i downloaded a new kernel for BootX from Ben's homepage, 2.2.15, i think... all i know it was the latest one. then everything worked. just make sure you're using BootX 1.2.1, and everything should go fine. right now i'm using 1 zip drive, 1 jaz drive, 2 external hd's, one tape drive and the internal CD-rom drive in my 6360! good luck
