(Answer) (Category) Linux on PowerPC FAQ-O-Matic : (Category) X Windows : (Category) GNOME :
Message Appears: "It appears the panel has crashed"
GNOME while it is running checks the well being of the GNOME panel (the panel at the bottom of the GNOME screen), and if it's stop responding to itself, then it asks you if you want to kill it.

This could be caused by:

- Your Machine is too slow. Click cancel. If the panel is still responding to you, then that's your problem. Try reducing what you have on the panel.

- It Crashed. This was a problem with older version of gnome-core, if your version is older than about 2 months, it's a good time to upgrade it to a more stable version of GNOME.
