On my initial install of LinuxPPC 1999 (also known as R5) after running the installer, BootX fails immediately when I attempt to boot into Linux. I get an error message that says:could not load bootstrap resource (#0) file BootX.c, line 1543Then the machine boots into MacOS. After the boot into MacOS, the Norton FileSaver Extension has crashed every time since I began with the install of LinuxPPC. What does this mean? g.simmons@sh-home.de
It's been reported that recent versions of BootX crash unless you have virtual memory turned *on*, and this turned out to be the case for me as well. I tried BootX versions 1.1 and 1.1.1, and in both cases, the extension crashed on system startup when I tried to boot into Linux, requiring a restart. Booting into MacOS was fine, and I could also boot into Linux from the BootX app. Also, under MacOS the Norton FileSaver Extension was crashing after every startup since I installed LinuxPPC. I worked around the problem by turning on virtual memory to go from 64MB of physical memory to 128 MB of virtual memory. After that, I could boot into Linux from the BootX extension without crashing, and I could boot into MacOS with the crash of the Norton FileSaver Extension. I am using a PowerMac 6500 with MacOS 8.1. g.simmons@sh-home.de
