Why does lpr crash and/or consume all available memory?
Version of the Linux lpr package at least through lpr-0.31-1a have a bug which
causes lpd to crash when it tries to see if another machine on your network has
permission to connect. Until a new fixed version of lpr comes out you can use a patch I made against the lpr-0.31.1a source rpm. The patch is located at: http://rampages.onramp.net/~rmore/binaries/lpr-0.31-1a.patch.gzYou will have to download the source rpm, apply the patch, and recompile. Please also note that you may also need to configure your hosts.allow, hosts.deny, hosts.equiv, and/or your hosts.lpd to properly enable access. rmore@onramp.net
I've created an RPM using the above patch. You can get it here.ftp://ftp.linuxppc.org/devel/contrib/RPMS/lpr-0.31-1b.ppc.rpmIf you want the SRPM, it is here. (Note: This URL may eventually change.) ftp://ftp.linuxppc.org/incoming/lpr-0.31-1b.src.rpmSee also: Why does lpr based network printing from another machines fail?Dave ddkilzer@earthlink.net
