How do I set the serial port speed?
Sometimes you've got everything setup nicely, but you can't print a plainest text file with lpr because the computer won't communicate with the printer at the correct speed, and you just get garbage on paper. You fix this problem by issuing the following command:
# stty 57600 < /dev/cua1
where 57600 is the baud speed your printer requires (57600 is the case with my HP DeskJet 870Cxi), and /dev/cua1 is the serial port you connect your printer to. Obviously, these two can take different values. Check the manual of your printer to find out what baud speed it requires - if you can't find the information in the manual, try to find technical specs info at the manufacturers's web site.
