My machine dies after exiting KDE
The problem is that kaudioserver does not die when it should, with the rest of
KDE's components. You need to edit
/opt/kde/bin/startkdeand insert a # before 'kaudioserver', commenting it out so it is not run when KDE is launched. The symptoms: immediately after exiting X, the machine is slow. Within 15 seconds, you see the dreaded (default pager):[3]ps_allocate_cluster: no space in available paging segments; swapon suggested hollis@andrew.cmu.edu
This should not be a problem with recent kernel versions and/or recent version of KDE, since this bug has since been patched.
