(Answer) (Category) Linux on PowerPC FAQ-O-Matic : (Category) PowerPC Linux : (Category) LinuxPPC for PCI Macs :
What is different between pre-DR3(DR3) and July 98 LinuxPPC
The July 98 Linuxppc cd image is based on the Mklinux pre-DR3(DR3) rpm set so
both are pretty much accurate RedHat 5.0 releases. The July 98 LinuxPPC cd image
contains roughly these changes in the RPMS directory...

newer than in pre-DR3(DR3)...

X11R6.3-Pmac
ddd
enscript
gimp
gtk+
imap
kde
rpm
xfmail

...missing from pre-DR3(DR3)...

giflib
gnome
imlib
libtool
netscape-communicator

...and a few others. Of course the LinuxPPC lets you install either LinuxPmac,
Mklinux and LinuxPREP on their supported hardware.
