How do I install from the Linux for PowerPC CD
The install for Linux with the CD follows much like it would if
you didn't have the CD. First you need to partition your hard drive.
Use Apple's hard drive partition program or the third party one that
came with your hard drive. Make an AU/X partition for ROOT and also
one for USER if you feel like it. You will also need a partition for
SWAP ( virtual memory under linux ). I recommend using about 400 meg
total for everything on the CD. You can install less if you want.

Step 2: Install the base.tar file
On the CDROM you should find a BASE.TAR file. You need to install that
on your ROOT and USER partitions using the Apple mklinux installer.
When the mklinux installer gets to the point where it says it can't
find the mklinux.tar file, just type CDROM:BASE.TAR and it will
use that file instead.

Step 3: Install the kernel for your machine. Use the milo program
to install a kernel for your machine. The kernel must be named
vmlinux and be in the same folder as the milo application.

Step 4: Set the Bootvariables program. The bootvariables program
will let you change the variables in the Open Firmware so you can
reboot into linux. Reboot your macintosh and you should hear the
reboot chord twice. Then some disk activity and then you should see
linux booting. If not, reboot your computer and hold down the
Open Apple-option-R-P keys at the same time to go back to the MacOS.

Step 5: If you get the the Login Banner, log in as root.

Step 6: Run install_linuxppc and answer the questions.

Step 7: That's about it.
