This would be really cool! With mac-type icons and mac os looking windows. There are already file managers out there that could be modified to do this. The code for some of these can be found at mkarchive or in X11 Applications. Tkdesk or xfm might be good places to start. jcarr@linuxppc.org --------------------- Take a look at http://www.bioele.nuee.nagoya-u.ac.jp/member/tak/mlvwm.html , while it's not a 'real' Mac look and feel it is close Ralph rlindber@telebyte.com There is a cool new desktop file manager that is very close to the Macintosh Finder. You can drag files out of windows and place them on the desktop, drag files to the trash, copy and move files between windows, change permissions, make aliases and customize the icons. You can get the source at http://www-c.informatik.uni-hannover.de/~kaiser/dfm/dfm.html or a precompiled binary with custom icons at the MkArchive under /X11/File Managers. KFM (K File Manager) is an integral part of KDE ("K" Desktop Environment), which
is the default window-manager/desktop-thingy for pre-DR3. It can be set up to
look pretty Mac-like or even Windows Explorer-like. I didn't like KDE at first,
but you should really give it a shot - I'm really impressed now.

Also, if you are using GNOME (or at least have GNOME-libs installed), there is the GNOME Midnight Commander, which is based on top of the one of the classic file browser programs -- midnight commander. This File browser is even more Mac-like then the KDE one, which treats directories like they were web pages (you single click things to open them). Old versions of GNOME Midnight Commander had many technical problems with it (core dumps being littered all over your hard drive, or putting files on your drive with no data that look like *%$!!@%!). So if you are having problems with this, get the lastest version of Midnight Commander from the GNOME FTP Site (ftp.gnome.org or ftp.linuxburg.com/pub/GNOME/). arthur99@global2000.net | |
