You haven't installed the shared libs completly.
getting the latest version of binutils seems to do the trick.
make sure that you have the latest version of gcc also.

check out:
ftp://ftp.linuxppc.org/linuxppc/redhat/RPMS/ppc/ 

and remember to get the file with the highest letter at the 
end of its name.
 (ie: binutils-2.7-1E.ppc.rpm > binutils-2.7-1D.ppc.rpm)
