Quik boot LinuxPPC on an 8500
After many hours of trying to get this to work, I'm finally able to get it to boot directly from the HD. I was following the instructions on http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~aturner/7200boot.html and they helped quite a bit along with the posts here. After poking around in OF I found that the 8500 has 2 scsi contollers /bandit/gc/53c94 and /bandit/gc/mesh these have an alias scsi and scsi-int respectivly. The HD and CD-ROM are on the scsi-int controller. After I figured that out (and which scsi ID my HD was) my OF env vars were boot-device scsi-int/sd@6:0 boot-file scsi-int/sd@6:2/vmlinux
Notice my HD scsi ID is 6 and would be 0 if it was the factory installed HD.
Hope this helps someone :)
