(Answer) (Category) Linux on PowerPC FAQ-O-Matic : (Category) X Windows :
My mouse is much slower in X than in MacOS.
Give the server the -t num and -a num options (threshhold
and acceleration). You can give the server options by putting them after
-- in startx:

    startx -- -t 3 -a 10

Or, use the xset m command from inside X, and when you get a setting
you like, put it in your .xinitrc. I use:

    xset m 6/1 4

I prefer a little more acceleration:
    xset m 8 1
