I have a rev1 G3 MT/266 with 2 network ports (built-in and an Asante'FAST 100 PCI card). Both ports are connected to our network.
I recently installed DR3 of MkLinux. The install seemed to go without a hitch, but I cannot reach any hosts other than myself. I can ping 'localhost' and 'mac3' (my hostname) and get responses, but if I try to reach any other hosts (gateway, nameserver, other machines I know are active) I get no response. I assume it's a routing problem, but the config files look OK to me.
ifconfig yields:
lo: link encap: Local loopback
inet addr: 127.0.0.1 Broadcast: 127.255.255.255 Mask: 255.0.0.0
UP BROADCAST LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU 3584 Metric 1
Rx packets: 52 errors: 0 dropped: 0 frame: 0
Tx packets: 52 errors: 0 dropped: 0 frame: 0 coll:0

UP BROADCAST LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU 1500 Metric 1
Rx packets: 27 errors: 0 dropped: 0 frame: 0
Tx packets: 52 errors: 0 dropped: 0 frame: 0 carrier: 0 coll:0
and route yields:

I have exactly the same problem on my old 7100 power mac except I chose different IP
addresses for my machine (192.168.100.2). I can't telnet in from my PC linux box
which I know networks OK as it frequently resides on my office net.
I am VERY new to MkLinux and linux on a mac, and I have spent three days going
over the same ground with trying to solve this problem. I don't even know if my
ethernet card is supported as I don't know what type it is!! However, the kernel
does show some sort of ethernet found message.
If I can't sole this soon, I'll remove MkLinux and go back to Mac OS 8.1 with
which - at least - I can transfer files with appletalk.
Any help with this problem or at least what type of net-card I have would be
most gratefully received. |
