Software RAID with Linuxppc
The fisrt step is to add raid support in the kernel. This is done by applying a patch (patch -p0 < kernel-patch... in /usr/src) you can find at ftp.us.kernel.org/pub/linux/daemons/raid/alpha/, it's called raid0145-"date"-"kernel". Get the latest raidtools there too, it doesn't hurt (althought...). If you have trouble patching the kernel, especially if it's aimed at an older version than yours, you can mail me, I have a good one for 2.2.5-vger. Then you have to compile the raidtools with the new kernel headers. After that it's quite straigh, you just have to follow carefully the docs in /usr/doc/raidtools. The only thing you should take care off is the way raid devices are started/stopped in the initscripts: stopping is fine (although raidstop is called two times) but starting MUST be called with raidstart -a and NOT raidrun -a (and again only once is sufficient).
