Netatalk 1.4b2+asun2.0a18.2 -- 'No response from server.'
Double-clicking a Netatalk server's name in the Mac's Chooser will cause a 'No response from server' dialogue unless the following line:
<servername> -tcp -address <ip-address>
 is present in:
/etc/atalk/afpd.conf
(Replace <servername> with the name of your machine and <ip-address> with the machine's ip-address. Additional servers can be added by appending additional lines to afpd.conf.)
Netatalk services are started on startup and can be stopped, started or restarted with the following commands:
/etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S91atalk stop|start|restart
(Thanks to Alex Fahrnholz for much of the above information.)
