I'm in single user mode, but I can't write to the root filesystem OR /usr is gone.
mount -o remount,rw /
mount /usr

But sometimes it won't do that either, because it can't make mtab.  So
then you need to mount -n -o rw,remount /.  -n = don't write in mtab.  (I'm
assuming the mklinux options are the same as the ones for Linux/i386.  I'll
check my man pages when I'm back in MkLinux.)
