mklinux scsi support on PB5300
Anyone working on this one? Being limited to the internal harddrive is not an option for some of us. Unfortunately I am not a developer and I have no idea whatsoever about writing driver code...

I second this request. 5300 functionality is limited without support the SCSI port.

I want to agree here too. it is very important to have scsi support, for example, if you want to install linux on a external drive (jaz) and to boot from there.

This would be a wonderful thing to have... I fired it up on my 5300 last night only to discover that the scsi port wasn't supported. Unfortunately I'm installing off a cdrom on the scsi port, and I"m installing onto a jaz disk, also on the scsi port! argh! I'm not much of a mac developer but if I can get some specs and maybe a template to follow, I might be able to try building a driver. Email me if you have any info. I'd REALLY like to see this working.

I must agree with this request. I was so excited about my DR3 CD I got in the mail, but it is useless. The built in drive is not big enough to hold a MacOS, a few Linux partitions and the installer files from the CD. Is there any way to support an expansion bay hard drive on the PB 5300? (VST)

This will only work if you resize your internal hdd partitions so that you can have a mac OS partition (~200M), a linux partition (~300M) and (~14M) another linux partition for swap.
i had the same problem as all the others, but i downloaded the RedHat folder to an external hdd, then booted to a floppy, dumped the whole internal hdd to the external and put the floppy system folder (plus the mklinux files) on the pb5300 hdd and rebooted. i installed mklinux to a 300meg linux partition on the disk, rebooted to the basic mac system from floppy and removed everything from the mac partition on the internal disk and replaced the Mac OS.
I have the tools i need on the mac side (niftytelnet, netscape, ftp, etc) and have a standard install of linux on the other side of the disk. With a bigger disk, i could have plenty of room for anything my heart desires. Right now it is a bit tight, but it all works.
Also, you could copy your Mac OS to an external hdd and remove it completely from the internal. then boot from the external, freeing up 500 meg of internal space to put linux on =]
hope this helps, cause i thought i was up a creek untill i found this loophole.

So, please someone tell me, if it possible to USE SCSI port on Powerbook 5300c? And I want to use GENERIC SCSI hardware, not "Apple branded" one. I have good TEAC scsi CDROM and want to use it!

Previous: (Answer) Wish it ran on POWER boxes.
Next: (Answer) UPS Support.. it's kinda silly to have the UPS if it can't tell your box to shutdown.. :(
