Other PPP utilities that work
netcfg
I have had success using netcfg to configure ppp dial-up.  You might want to
check out this link for step-by-step instructions:

kppp
If you have kde installed, kppp is very user friendly.  

Before you configure ppp, you need to have the following information:
- isp ppp dial-in number
- domain host name of your ISP
- IP addresses of the DNS of your ISP

Quick tips to use "netcfg" with DR3
 * start an X session (startx) as root
 * start an X terminal session
 * type "netcfg" - see above URL for help
   - enter hostname, domain, and nameserver(s)
   - click "interfaces" and then "add"
   - select "PPP" and click "OK", then enter phone # and login info, click done
 * type "modemtool" and select "cua0" (modem port) or "cua1" (printer port)
 * type "usernet" and click on the button by PPP0 to connect
   it will turn green when the connection is active
