This product - at least version 2.0.6 - works beautifully with Quantum
Fireball mechanisms, which are not supported with the standard Apple
HD setup program, using the directions given below. - Josh Hayes,

Copied from a post to mklinux-hardware by Mauro Croci:
Versions of FWB prior to 2.0 can do directly A/UX partition (on a jaz).
For the new version, here is the procedure, from FWB
(I haven't yet tried this out, so let'me know ..)

ADDING AN IDE LINUX DRIVE
For LinuxPPC, I added a Maxtor 6GB IDE drive to my '98 beige G3, in the CDROM ATA bus connector ribbon. I erroneously thought to jumper the drive as a "slave" since there was already a master on the ATA0 bus (main MacOS drive). Neither FWB or the Apple Drive Setup would see the drive. I then re-jumpered the CDROM to be a slave, and the new Maxtor to be a master. Now the FWB mounted and formatted the Maxtor, which became the "hdc" device. The CDROM is now the "hdd" device, so after the install I had to do "ln -s /dev/hdd /dev/cdrom" to be able to mount the CDROM. rnilsson@teleport.com |
