(Answer) (Category) Linux on PowerPC FAQ-O-Matic : (Category) PowerPC Linux : (Category) LinuxPPC for PCI Macs :
What about a Motorola Starmax computer?
The Starmax has been basically working with Linux-pmac since 4/17/97.
Presently all Starmax models should have all the standard features found
on other machines. Including X11, sound, CDROM, IDE booting etc.

The kernel also supports ppp via modem and printing on a stylewriter -
follow the directions elsewhere in the faq-o-matic (make sure you use /dev/cua0
for the modem port and /dev/cua1 as the printer port).

More info on getting Linux-pmac to run on the StarMax can be found at

Boot Variables v1.3 will work with Starmax computers. It is available at

You may link directly to the cdrom by:
cd /
mkdir cdrom
mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdc /cdrom
This is for RedHat. (Will probably work with others)
This is with the 2.1 kernal from au. Installed
