Installing RPM's Am I just the dumbest hacker in the world or what. I have installed LinuxPPC on a PowerMacG3 and it all works except when I try to mount the CDROM I get a message saying that the device does not exist. Disk #2 has all the RPM's, possibly including a driver to configure the CDROM but I can't get at it - Catch 22! In the ReadMe on the disk there is a wierd suggestion that 'if you are connected to the internet you can retrieve the RPM's via FTP. Why would anybody want to do that when they have the disk and how is it possible to get on the internet prior to installing all the necessary RPM's and configuring the system - Catch 22 again! I can access internet on the MacOS but not via Linux. Am I the victim of a conspiracy or what. Just prior to abandoning Linux I cleared every Linux file from the MacOS, downloaded LinuxPPC 1999 from http://ftp.linuxPPC.org/install and repartitioned the second hard drive to just a root (2 gb) and a swap (50mb) and Bingo! now I was able to mount the cdrom and view files - my faith is restored. My problem is I was messing with too many different bits and peices and conflictions made the process unnecessarily complex and killed things in the process.
