pdisk woes
I am trying to make linuxppx R5 work on my PowerTower Pro 225. I am having trouble creating the Apple_UNIX_SVR2 partitions using pdisk insde the xwindows installer.
Here's the setup: PTP225 with 128 MB RAM, 1 4GB internal HD (SCSI bus 0), 1 2GB External drive (SCSI bus 1), 1 jaz 1 drive (SCSI bus 1).
Using anything except pdisk from within the xwindows installer, I can partition the 2 GB drive just fine (1GB HFS, 2 partitions as Apple_UNIX_SVR2: ~900MB root and ~100MB /swap) and then procedd to install but it won't boot when I'm done because the partition map is hosed.
Using pdisk from within the xwindows installer (via xterm) the partition map is bogus and I have to initialize the map using the "i" command. Everything proceeds swimmingly until I write the new partitions using "w". At this time, I get an error message about not writing block 1 and 2 (or something like that...). Further, upon returning to pdisk after a reboot into the installer same thing occurs. The disk itself is fine, I have low level formatted it more than once using several different tools.
I have had the same problem tring both the 2GB and the jaz externals. I don't want to reformat my 4GB drive, either...
Hep me!
