3400 install probs. Swapfiles/Speed. MacWorld UK Cd MkL-DR3
I have installed Lynux from the MacWorld UK CDRom (MkLynux DR-3) on a 3400/180 with 48 Mb. Having read some of the FAQ entries I downloaded a new Kernel and mach_server cos those on the CD didn't work. The RedHat directory was OK (I think).
Things got better and I have been able to "startx" and run various Xclients.
But...
...The machine always grinds to a halt with following message... 
   "default pager, ps_allocate_cluster nospace available ... swapon suggested"
   Of the 1.3G available I set 300Mb for MacOS, 600 for / and 128 for the
   swap file. I aslo put 10 Meg each for /proc, /var and /home. I cant
   remember where I read to do that!
...Also, the sound doesn't work (one Whoop then nothing.) ...And its s l o w...I thought it was supposed to be quicker than MacOS... 
   Am I wrong??? The CPU monitior shows very little action, other than when
   it stops, and then I reboot!
My guess is that I have not set things up right. Does anyone have any ideas?
And while I have your attention, how do I start TCP over PPP to download Netscape and use it?
Lots of questions....but I have to start somewhere...
