How to view pdf files from Netscape
If you are wondering how to set up a pdf viewer in Netscape here is
the method. Obtain the xpdf-0.7-2A.ppc.rpm file from ftp.linuxppc.org.
It is in the contrib/howarth directory of the June CDROM image
directory. Install it and then from Netscape open the preferences
dialog box. From preferences select the Navigator/Applications section
and you will see a list of filetypes and helper applications appear.
Scroll through the list until you find 'Portable Document Format'.
Select it and click the edit button. Select the 'Handled by application'
radio button. Now click in the text edit box to the left of the
applications radio button and enter /usr/bin/xpdf -ps '|lpr' %s Click the Okay button and then close the Preferences window by clicking okay as well. Now if you click on a URL with a pdf file it will open it up in xpdf and you will also be able to directly print the pdf via lpr. Very nice. howarth@nitro.med.uc.edu
Update: xpdf 0.80 source and linuxppc binaries are now available.
